Here is an interesting photo set on pigeon keepers in NYC who fly “fancies.” Flying “fancies” is an ancient sport where multiple large kits of pigeons are released at one time by competing fanciers. The kits naturally combine into one large flock. At this time, when a fanciers birds are mixed with other fanciers birds, the fancier calls his/her birds back to their own loft, hoping to lure a competing fanciers birds in with their own. Once a bird is captured, it can be sold back to the owner. In the USA, this mainly takes place using pigeon lofts located on top of buildings in New York.
